Because our family dentist, Dr. Watkins has extensive experience and training in advanced dentistry, we are able to offer services that other family dental practices may not. Our general and family dental care services consist of comprehensive maintenance and preventative plans as well as treatments for gingivitis and other stages of gum disease, teeth sensitivity and even bad breath.

We generally recommend patients schedule general dentist visits at least twice each year, with additional appointments recommended in specific situations. Each general dental visit includes a thorough exam with x-rays, oral cancer screening, and gum inspection followed by a deep and thorough teeth cleaning.

Our thorough dental examinations start with a full-mouth x-ray. X-rays provide detailed images of your teeth and jaw structure so Dr. Watkins can spot any underlying issues or potential problems as well as assess the overall health of your teeth. The second part of the visit is a visual exam, where we use a mirror and small pick to thoroughly inspect each tooth for any damage, cavities, and plaque. Our dental exams also include a comprehensive gum examination to check for signs of gum disease by using special instruments to gently probe the gums.

The dental exam is followed by a complete head and neck examination during which our family dentist, Dr. Watkins can check of any potential joint or gland issues such as temporomandibular joint disorders, or TMJ. At the end of each exam, Dr. Watkins discusses the results of the exam and advises on any necessary treatments or repairs.

A professional dental cleaning is a vital part of our maintenance and preventative plans. Like Dr. Watkins, our dental hygienists have the solid training and gentle touch that has come to define our practice. The general rule of home care is brushing three times a day and flossing once a day, but not all patients are that stringent about their home care. Most brush twice each day and floss on occasion. But even patients who are fastidious about their brushing and flossing habits benefit from a deep cleaning that gets results brushing and flossing cannot.
