Dr. Tom Watkins, or Dr. Tom as he is commonly known, is originally from the small west Texas town of Levelland. It is there that he met his wife of 28+ years. Together, they have two grown children, a grandson, and a granddaughter on the way.
His personal motto, "Loving to live by living to love," is evident in all aspects of his life. Every year, Dr. Tom travels to Guatemala with a group of other caring individuals to provide dental care for those in need. He plans to continue doing so for many, many years to come.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Tom enjoys active pastimes like mountain biking, hiking, and fishing (especially deep sea fishing), and some not-so-active pastimes like good 'ol backyard sit-under-the-tree visiting with friends and family. He is also an active member of his church, and his spirit of service permeates his work.
Experience
Dr. Tom graduated with his bachelor and dental degrees with honors. During dental school, he received the U.S. Air Force Health Professions Scholarship. He has received other accolades throughout his career, including the Meritorious Service Award and the Commander's Commendation Award.
For over 30 years, Dr. Tom has served as a full clinical professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry.
Dr. Tom is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), the American Orthodontic Society (AOS), the American Endodontic Society (AES), the American Society of Dental Anesthesia (ASDA), the Texas Dental Association (TDA), the San Antonio District Dental Society (SADDS), and the Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry (SARD).
